Welcome to Bamboo Weekly, my new publication that looks at the news via Pandas.

I’m still experimenting with the types of articles I’m going to write, the ways in which I’m going to share information, and the topics that I’m going to explore.

But about some things, I already have no doubt: I’m going to make a lot of mistakes, and I’ll depend on you to help me correct them. I’ll probably refer to some bad data, engage in bad analysis, and use Pandas in sub-optimal ways.

When (not if) this happens, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know! (Positive comments and general questions are also welcome, of course.) You can always reach me at [reuven@lerner.co.il](mailto:reuven@lerner.co.il), or by replying to this message.

Bamboo Weekly is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

## This week’s topic: Government corruption

Transparency International is a non-profit that tries to track how corrupt (or not) various governments are. They just came out with their rankings for 2022, and I’m happy to say that they made their data available.

For this week’s questions, you’ll need to use the data:

[CPI2022\_GlobalResultsTrendsCPI2022\_GlobalResultsTrends.xlsx95 KBdownload-circle](https://www.bambooweekly.com/content/files/2026/08/CPI2022%5FGlobalResultsTrends.xlsx "Download")

With that in hand, I’d like you to answer the following questions:

- According to Transparency International, what five countries were least corrupt in 2022?
- According to the same data, what five countries were *most* corrupt in 2022?
- Which region of the world was least corrupt?
- Finally, which five countries have made the greatest improvement in 10 years, between the 2012 report and the 2022 report?

The learning goals for this week’s exercise are to work with Excel files, including multi-sheet Excel. Too easy? Too hard? Too few hints? Let me know!

I’ll be back tomorrow (on Thursday) with my answers to these questions.
